European Political Community Summit/Agenda of activities

Albania is hosting the sixth Summit of the European Political Community, taking place on 16 May at Skanderbeg Square in Tirana, bringing together leaders of 47 countries and key European institutions. This is the first time the summit is taking place in the Western Balkans, marking a historic moment for the region and an appreciation for Albania’s role as a factor of stability and cooperation on the continent.

A day earlier, on May 15, a working dinner will be held in Tirana between the leaders of the European Council, the European Commission and the leaders of the Western Balkans region.

The event is co-organised by the President of the European Council, António Costa, and Prime Minister Edi Rama, under the theme “New Europe in a New World: Unity – Cooperation – Common Action”. The summit will also be attended by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, as well as representatives from NATO, the OSCE and the Council of Europe.

For this occasion, the “House of Europe” has been erected in the heart of the capital, a symbolic structure built on Skanderbeg Square, which will host official delegations. Part of it are the artistic works of Albanian students that reflect their vision for the future of Europe.

The summit focuses on four strategic topics:

Democratic security and stability, with an emphasis on support for Ukraine and protection from foreign interference.

Competitiveness and economic security, through innovation, energy transition and industrial sustainability.

Migration, mobility and youth, addressing the challenges and potential of the young European generation in the digital age.

European leadership in a new world, where a clearer vision and determination to act in the international arena are expected.

This summit comes at a critical moment for Europe, faced with challenges such as the war in Ukraine, hybrid threats and technological change. Tirana is thus becoming a key point for European dialogue, regional cooperation and the drafting of a common course for the future of the continent.
