The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, on the first day of school chose to be present in Berat, at the "Babë Dudë Karbunara" school, one of 25 new educational institutions, which welcome about 10 thousand students and teachers.

In his speech, Rama emphasized the great commitment that must be made to preserve the Albanian language.

He stated that the Albanian language is threatened by the great danger of rapid communications, abbreviations, as well as the abandonment of reading and writing.

"My family on my father's side comes from Berat, my great-grandfather was a patriot committed to achieving Independence. A man with an average income, but very engaged with other patriots for the establishment of Albanian schools, when the Albanian language was threatened.

The man whose name the school bears (Baba Dudë Karbunara), arrived in Berat in 1897, and secretly taught the Albanian language to boys from one neighborhood to another.

Grandfather Dudë Karbunara left a legacy for the Albanian language, which today is threatened by the hostility of fast communications, with endless cuts, until the abandonment of reading and writing.

These are challenges for everyone. We are trying to do more, paying attention to the ability of teaching through technologies to have a protective network for the Albanian language", emphasized Rama./ CNA
