Rama praises Dumani after attacks on SPAK

Following the arrest of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj on February 10 for two serious criminal offenses, corruption and laundering of proceeds of crime, Prime Minister Edi Rama launched a campaign of successive attacks on the prosecutors and judges who had put Veliaj behind bars.

In his public appearances, Rama even sent intimidating messages to the judge and prosecutor in the Veliaj case.

But in recent weeks, his stance has completely changed. Now he comes in more subdued tones. During the meeting with the SP candidates in Elbasan, Rama praised Dumani.

He stated that Dumani has his and the SP's respect and solidarity for the work he does despite the threats and attacks he receives along with his family and several other prosecutors.

Rama described Dumani as a virtuous and independent prosecutor.

"For the first time today, the Albanian people see people connected to political power being investigated by independent prosecutors and tried by independent judges. It doesn't matter at all that there may be things within that process that go wrong and things that are strange in themselves. For the first time, it's the historical side."

We will not let Albanians remember that this job was done because Altin Dumani came. It is not that Altin Dumani came who has all my and our respect and solidarity for the work he does, but also for the animalistic attacks and threats he has received along with his family and some of the prosecutors there.

Altin Dumani has been a prosecutor there for I don't know how many years, and I don't believe his virtues came from the reform, he had them because people either have them or don't have them, why didn't any politician call Altin Dumani all those years he was a prosecutor. If he did, come here for once. Why didn't he investigate?

Why didn't someone from the court come out and say, "Altin, stop this, I'll judge you"?

"Zero, not investigated, not even summoned because it is not the issue of Altini or X or Y, it is the issue of the sword. Altini did not have a sword in his hand. The sword in his hand was held by political power. That sword that Lady Justice has in her hand, the statue symbol of justice, was held by political power since 1912," said Rama./ CNA
