RAMA IN TWO TIMES/ How his attitude towards SPAK changed

The arrest of Erion Veliaj caused Prime Minister Edi Rama to change course and from a supporter of SPAK, he came out against it and attacked it. Once, even though many socialists fell into the net of SPAK investigations, Rama maintained the line of not commenting on the decisions of the justice institutions.


Rama once defended SPAK and demanded that it operate in complete independence. He demanded that politics be distanced from the justice system.

"Let SPAK do its job," the socialist leader said on September 4, 2023.

But now the protection of SPAK's independent work has collapsed. Prime Minister Edi Rama intimidated the judges, telling them not to dare ask for their phone numbers . In a meeting he held on Wednesday morning with the parliamentary group, he claimed that the new justice institutions needed to be put under control, while continuing to underline that Mayor Erion Veliaj was arrested without evidence.

So within a short time, Rama seems to have completely changed his stance on the approach to the new justice institutions, defending Veliaj and attacking the judge in the case, Erion Banin, and SPAK./CNA
