Democratic Party MP, Dhurata Çupi, said today that the Laws Committee should not be dragged by Erion Veliaj's handcuffs and that the head of this Committee, Klotilda Busha, should resign.
In a statement to the media, Çupi said that Edi Rama's squirming and his dragging behind Erion Veliaj's handcuffs have blown up the government, the Municipality of Tirana and the Parliament of Albania.
Further, Çupi emphasized that as vice-chair of the Laws Committee, she is very sorry for the anti-Tishte stance held by the Chair of the Laws Committee, Klotilda Bushka.
Çupi said that SPAK should handle the criminal part, while the DP, as the opposition, has the obligation to raise its voice against the misuse of Parliament and the Laws Committee in the Erion Veliaj corruption affair.
"Edi Rama's squirming and his dragging behind Erion Veliaj's handcuffs have blown up the government, the Municipality of Tirana and the Parliament of Albania!
The government, because as of today, the message has been given that whoever steals has the protection of Edi Rama!
The Municipality of Tirana, because the red line of impunity for corruption has been set!
The Albanian Parliament, because the public message has been given that whoever prevents corruption from being discovered has the protection of Edi Rama!
As the Vice-Chair of the Laws Committee, I deeply regret the anti-Tishte stance taken by the Chair of the Laws Committee during the investigation of her political and business friends, Erion Veliaj and Ajola Xoxa.
Obstructing investigations, by helping to destroy the phone as evidence of the corruption of the Veliaj-Xoxa couple;
Obstructing investigations by directing witnesses to give false testimony;
Obstructing investigations to learn that Ajola Xoxa's shell company had the home address of the Chairwoman of the Laws Committee;
All of these acts are morally, politically, and criminally reprehensible.
But while SPAK will handle the criminal part, as the opposition, we have an obligation to raise our voice against the misuse of Parliament and the Laws Committee in the Erion Veliaj corruption affair.
The Laws Committee, the Mandates Council, the Secretariat for Voting Procedures and Ethics, have been misused over the years to protect Edi Rama's illegitimacy through tailor-made laws, tailor-made punishment of the opposition, or tailor-made protection of unconstitutional mandates.
The Chairwoman of the Laws Committee, Klotilda Bushka, must resign!
The Laws Committee should not be dragged down by Erion Veliaj's shackles and Edi Rama's powerlessness to cover up the terrible corruption of the majority and the government he leads!" - declared Çupi. /CNA
