Citizens protested for 2 hours/ Veliaj's resignation was demanded amid tensions

Protest in front of Tirana City Hall

After two hours, the protest in front of the Municipality of Tirana ended, where for the first time the six protesters demanded the resignation of Erion Veliaj after the corrupt affairs in the Municipality of Tirana. 

The next protest is expected to take place next Tuesday at 11:00. 

In today's protest, the citizens appeared determined to remove Erion Veliaj. There were no shortage of tensions, collisions, as well as egg and apple attacks towards the municipality. 

Flames and smokestacks were also thrown. The protesters also removed the surrounding fences, but together with the municipal councilors, they were not allowed to enter the premises of this institution. 

The police forces surrounded the building and during the tension the Rapid Intervention Forces were also present. 

During the protest, the political leader of the DP for Tirana, Belind Kelliçi, also spoke, who said that today she signed the new report against the mayor Erion Veliaj, for his connections with the mafia group, "Ndragheta".

Kelliçi said that Veliaj will give an account one by one to the citizens, whom he has insulted, despised and mocked./ CNA
