The government forgives fines two days before the elections/ The DP pulls

The Council of Ministers has decided today to waive fines imposed from January 1, 2015 to November 30, 2024.

Following this decision, the Democratic Party reacted, stating that this is a violation of the Electoral Code and equality in the competition.

The DP has called on the head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibaashi, and has called on SPAK to explain what it has to say about this mega-violation by Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government.

The Democratic Party, in its press release, emphasizes that Edi Rama is a fine-bearer: from 20 percent of permits as mayor, to hundreds of millions of incinerators.

According to the DP, with its false appearance as a fine-forgiving party in its 12th year in power, it is not lying to anyone.

Full statement from the DP

In violation of the Electoral Code and equality in the competition, on the last day of the campaign, the outgoing Prime Minister signed a broad amnesty, arbitrarily violating, in the most anti-European way possible, the law and the rules of the competition.

The same one who terrorized them for 12 years with taxes, fines, and persecution, now pretends to be merciful. There is not a drop of compassion in his heart, but only an appetite to disrupt the race, to change the will of the voters, to cheat, using the state machinery to help the party.

He did the same thing two years ago when, in the middle of the campaign, he gave bonuses to 670 thousand pensioners. The CEC made a Lukashenko-like interpretation in that case, saying that it was allowed in local elections, but not in general elections. Now the law is being violated in general elections.

What does Mr. Celibashi have to say?!

What do SPAK and the Prosecution, who have set up task forces for election manipulation, have to say about this mega-violation?

The Democratic Party has in its electoral program amnesty for fines and unpaid bills, but for the needy, for the disadvantaged, not for abusers.

Our promise stands, but never in violation of the law, and in violation of equality in elections.

With this action, Edi Rama openly ignores the OSCE-ODIHR recommendations and the EPP resolution, which conditions the country's integration with respect for the laws and rules of democracy.

Edi Rama is a fine-forgiving person: from 20 percent of permits as mayor, to hundreds of millions of incinerators. With his false appearance as a fine-forgiving person in his 12th year in power, he is not lying to anyone./ CNA
