"Right for Development" coalition program/ Spahiu: Let's change

Ekrem Spahiu, one of the representatives of the "Right for Development" coalition, has shared a part of this coalition's electoral program today. In a post on social networks, Spahiu has explained three of the main points of this program.

Spahiu emphasizes that the coalition aims to undertake major reforms in the institutional and constitutional fields.

The main point of the election program expresses the commitment to making changes to the Constitution.

Spahiu declares that it is time to reverse the constitutional collapse of 2008, which, according to him, produced the autocracy of prime ministers.

Spahiu also focused on changing the electoral system, where Albania would be a single college and not divided into regions.

The Coalition also aims to change the territorial division of 2015.

a. Amendment of the Constitution

The coalition is committed to requesting a referendum on constitutional changes, as soon as the Assembly begins its work, to undo the constitutional collapse of 2008.

An agreement that produced the autocracy of prime ministers and eliminated the role of the head of state as a guarantor over the parties in political life. The new constitution will balance the powers.

b. Changing the Electoral System

The coalition is determined to change the electoral system. We want an electoral system where Albania is a single college and not divided into regions.

Deputies should be elected through open lists so that citizens can take the fate of political life into their own hands and not have it be in the hands of party leaders.

c. New reform of territorial division and local administration

The coalition is in favor of changing the territorial division of 2015. A reform that proved to be a failure because it was done for electoral purposes and not in the service of democracy, citizens, and administrative efficiency.

We propose a new administrative division consisting of 93 municipalities, where in large centers urban areas would be separated from rural areas in order to have more economic efficiency, democratic representation, and specialization of local administration.

Our keyword is autonomy for local government. Financial autonomy, autonomy in competencies and decision-making.
