The situation in the Municipality of Tirana after the arrest of Veliaj/Teliti:

The coordinator of the economic program at the Democratic Party, Dorjan Teliti, revealed to CNA TV the situation in the Municipality of Tirana after the arrest of Mayor Erion Veliaj.

Teliti said that the institution is in stagnation and there is the same arrogance of governance as Veliaj.

"Today is the 27th and we were supposed to have the March meeting. By law, it is announced at least 5 days in advance and we were not notified, which means that the month of March will pass without a municipal council meeting in complete violation of the law on local self-government. This happens because they do not want the opposition majority to face off. We have requested a special meeting to discuss the issue that it is not known who is leading. We have a mayor who was elected de jure, but who is in prison in Durres. We have a prime minister who has taken on the de facto powers of the mayor of the municipality. We have a deputy mayor who the municipality appoints, one today, the other tomorrow, one returns to duty and dismisses the one who was appointed the day before, so we have a stalemate in the management of the Municipality of Tirana. All of these should be addressed in the municipal council but it is not called to meet. This shows an arrogance in the governance of the Municipality of Tirana, which, as under the leadership of Veliaj It continues the same today.

The only good thing is that tenders have been stopped to some extent because the staff did not know which order to respond to, the first team or the second team, the cell team or the prime minister's office. During the last two weeks, some procurement procedures, according to the information we have received, have been postponed. So these thefts, the disappearances of money, as with the 5D or the incinerators, have been reduced. We are in a situation that would not be worthy of even the smallest municipality in Albania. We talk about EU integration, but we do not have European work practices", said Teliti./ CNA
