Electronic payments program/ Rama: Informality decreases and the economy

Today in Tirana, the Program for Accelerating the Acceptance of Electronic Payments is being presented, a concrete step to reduce informality and increase the pace of development of the Albanian economy. This program is being developed in partnership with Mastercard Europe and with the support of the Albanian government.

Prime Minister Edi Rama was also present at this presentation.

In his speech, Rama said that this is both an awareness campaign for merchants and citizens and a transformation service that will bring more opportunities, fewer costs, and a stronger economy for all.

Rama emphasized that replacing physical counter services with online ones has saved the country 620 million euros.

Rama said that so far, about 95% of state services are offered online.

"It all happens at a very important moment in terms of electronic payments.

Because it is time for the digital revolution to deepen even further in terms of simplifying the payment system.

Today we have online payments and over 95% of government services are carried out online.

There are also some other services that are not yet being implemented, such as fingerprint tracking or identity tools, so there are only a few types of services.

Services have been transitioned from physical counters to online services.

"With this revolution, there are impacts on the Albanian economy and 620 million euros in services have been saved," Rama said.

Jokingly, Rama added that only marriages are not being held online.

"We just didn't do the wedding online, because witnesses are needed," Rama said./CNA
