Councilors in the Municipality of Tirana, letter to the EC: Edi Rama has usurped

The Group of Opposition Municipal Councilors in the Municipality of Tirana opposes Edi Rama's authoritarian and illegal methods, such as the case of replacing the arrested Mayor, Erion Veliaj, with the Deputy Mayor, Anuela Ristani.

In a letter addressed to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, the Opposition advisors state that the autonomy of local government has been violated, and the role of the Municipal Council has been marginalized, avoiding decision-making.

In their letter, the Opposition Councilors state that in addition to this, there are clear signs that the Tirana Municipality administration is being manipulated and threatened to be used in the May 11 elections.

Strongly condemning Rama's illegal interventions in this process, the Group of Opposition Advisors in the Municipality of Tirana calls on law enforcement institutions to continue investigations into any case of corruption and intimidation of the administration .

They also ask the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe to consider the situation and intervene to protect democratic standards in local government in Albania. / CNA
