Prime Minister Edi Rama was present today at the second high-level meeting "Albania2030 in the EU - The Path of Reforms". In his speech, Rama emphasized that for Albanians, being a member of the EU means being finally free from the shadow of history and secure in individual freedom and equality before the law.

Rama said that for Albanians, the reason for the necessity of being a member of the EU has been simple and remains simple.

Rama added that since 1983, the EU has not been more popular within its perimeter, in the eyes of its people, than it is currently.

"A survey has come out on the level of support for the EU, within the EU, by the peoples that make up the European family. A survey that has been published since 1983, the EU has never been more popular within its own perimeter, in the eyes of its peoples, than it is currently. It is a dramatic change in the popular view of the EU, which of course comes as a result of the fact that what was taken for granted until recently, is no longer taken for granted.

For the first time in history, an entire generation has not seen war, because they had not seen a war, they have become aware that the EU is also a security perimeter, within which the countries and peoples that make it up feel and want to remain unthreatened in all that they have achieved and in all their individual freedom and their equality before the law. Of course, then also in all the other assets that make the EU an extraordinary political creature.

"For us Albanians, it has been simpler and remains simpler, the reason for the necessity of being members of the EU. For us Albanians, being members of the EU is being finally free from the shadow of our history and certain that our individual freedom and equality before the law will not be a movable attribute depending on who governs here in Tirana," said Rama./CNA
