Repatriation of the Albanian missing in Sierra Leone/ Balla: We give Albanians

The Political Leader for Diaspora in the Socialist Party, Taulant Balla, has stated that with Albania's membership in the European Union, Albanian citizens will be able to obtain an EU passport and benefit from the protection and assistance of any EU embassy, ??wherever they are.

"With membership in the European Union and the receipt of the EU passport for Albanians, every EU embassy will come to the aid of Albanian citizens wherever they are, if they do not have an Albanian embassy nearby," Balla emphasized in a statement on social networks, citing as an example the recent case of the young Albanian who was repatriated from Africa.

Balla congratulated the authorities for the return of the 19-year-old Albanian from Sierra Leone, reacting quickly after his alarmed family requested help.

"It is the duty of the Albanian state to take care of every compatriot, wherever he is," said Balla, welcoming the record-breaking repatriation from Sierra Leone of the 19-year-old, who returned safely to his mother's arms after seeking help after being kidnapped at a police station in Freetown.

The operation was carried out through diplomatic channels and with coordinated support from local authorities and international partners./CNA
