PD official request to Duman for Tirana's incinerator
Belind Kelliçi

The Democratic Party has made an official request to the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, to maintain the same standard as in the investigation of the sterilization affair and that of the Tirana incinerator.

The member of the presidency of the Democratic Party, Belind Kelliçi, said that the prosecutor Dritan Prençi is not investigating the ghost incinerator of Tirana.

"Based on the above, we ask Mr. Duman to maintain the same standard as in the sterilization affair and react as soon as possible with a binding instruction, since as we have proven with undeniable facts, so far 120 have been robbed million euros for an incinerator that does not exist and this money of Albanian taxpayers has been transferred to offshore accounts in some countries of the world, while the assets located in our country are being used to lynch and threaten the whistleblowers of this affair in the media bought with the money of government corruption", said Këlliçi.

Full statement:

I am in front of you today to make public an official request which I will forward today to the head of the Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime, Mr. Altin Dumani. This request comes as a result of the lack of response from the prosecutor Dritan Prençi, who is investigating the most important case of these three decades, that of the ghost incinerator of Tirana.

Until today, we have proven with evidence and facts beyond a reasonable doubt that Erion Veliaj is the main official who, with his actions and non-actions, conceived, approved and implemented this mega corrupt affair. These evidences are found precisely in the investigation carried out by the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, in the investigative file against the former deputy. Prime Minister, Arben Ahmetaj.

These evidences are found in the KLSH report, which was administered by the prosecutor Prençi. In my request, I address Mr. Duman, to maintain the same standard, already made public by him in the informal meeting with journalists at the end of last December, where he spoke about the investigation of the sterilization concession and the implication of the former minister Ilir Beqja. We quote:

"We are prosecutors, but that doesn't mean we all think and reason the same way. I intervened with binding instructions in May, when the first measures had not been taken. I expressed my position in relation to the issue and the role of the former minister. The prosecutors of the following case have partially taken into consideration my positions, but also those of judge Bani".

Regarding the investigation of the Tirana incinerator file, leader Dumani states that: "It is in the phase of preliminary investigations that continue in the direction of any factor that may have committed criminal actions. The investigations are being done in the framework of the same procedure, not by faction".

Based on the above, we ask Mr. Duman to maintain the same standard as in the sterilization affair and to react as soon as possible with a binding instruction, since as we have proven with undeniable facts, so far 120 million euros have been stolen for an incinerator that does not exist and this money of Albanian taxpayers have been transferred to offshore accounts, in some countries of the world, while the assets located in our country are being used to lynch and threaten the whistleblowers of this affair in the media bought with government corruption money.

Until today, we have seen this structure carry out arbitrary actions, in flagrant violation of the Constitution, isolating without any charge or evidence the Leader of the Opposition and his family members, and meanwhile when it comes to Edi Rama and Erion Veliaj, who are captured in flagrante delicto with their signatures, with voice and image committing serious criminal acts, SPAK neither sees, nor hears nor acts.

This standard is unacceptable even for the most brutal authoritarian countries and regimes, and not anymore in Albania, where the expectations for a country aspiring to join the EU are that every corrupt official will be brought to justice, regardless of the name of the except that there may be.

The burden of proof now falls on SPAK. It is the moment to show with concrete acts and actions that you are not a party to the corrupt and you are not the defense lawyers of Edi Rama and Erion Veliaj. /CNA
