DP denounced in SPAK/ Topçiu reacts: I have suspended all employment,

The mayor of Maliq, Gëzim Topçiu, has reacted after the report filed against him by the Democratic Party (DP) to SPAK, accusing him of electoral activities. In a statement to the media, Topçiu said that he has suspended all new hiring, while regarding investments, he said that these are normal procedures.

Further, Topçiu stated that it is not favoritism since the investment is in all villages of the municipality he heads.

" I have not read the material, my colleagues have sent me something, but I have not read it and I am not familiar with the material. From what they have told me, it concerns two moments, employment during the election period and in the second moment with public investments in the territory, or public procurement. I want to clarify that with an order issued by me, we have suspended all new employment, you can verify this at the municipal institution. The second moment has to do with investments which are investments approved by a decision of the Municipal Council with a decision of 2024. These are normal, standard procedures, we have not made any additions during the 4-month election period, so it is a normal job of the municipality. In my concept, I think that our institutions should work according to an approval that the Municipal Council has made, according to the approval that the Public Procurement Agency makes, which is an institution that also looks at the legal basis. So it seems to me an inappropriate action, but nevertheless the relevant institutions should verify and to see what is the violation or abuse that we have committed. It cannot be called favoritism if I invest in all the villages of the municipality. It is a 3-year investment for the years 2025-2026-2027 announced by decision of the Municipality Council, approved by the Prefect's institution, continues with standard procedures. We do not make roads to the left or to the right, we make roads everywhere throughout the municipality. Let our communities see how real we are for this part , "said Topçiu./ CNA
