From political clashes to group voting and vote secrecy / Problems in elections,

The OSCE-ODIHR mission in Albania, which observed the May 14 elections, has listed some of its findings in its final report.

OSCE-ODIHR calls the tensions between political parties and clashes in the Democratic Party a concern in the May 14 elections.

"The May 2023 local elections in Albania were generally well-administered, competitive and conducted with the participation of the main political forces, but the process was characterized by continued polarization between the main political parties and a deep division within the opposition," the report said.

Also, it is mentioned that there have been cases of misuse of state resources and the denunciations made by the opposition for pressure on the administration and public sector employees are highlighted.

"Contenders could campaign freely, but cases of misuse of state resources at the central and local level, allegations of pressure on public sector workers and voters, and allegations of vote buying were troubling," it continued.

Regarding the day of the elections, OSCE-ODIHR has seen with concern party interference, group voting and problems with the secrecy of the vote.

"Election day was generally peaceful, the process was negatively affected by numerous cases of party interference as well as technical and procedural problems, extensive group voting and problems with the secrecy of the vote," the report states./ CNA
