Parliament convenes/What to expect from the plenary session today

The Albanian Parliament is holding its next plenary session today, where two normative acts of the Council of Ministers will be discussed.

The acts aim to extend the validity of identification documents of Albanian citizens living and working abroad until the end of May.

The extension of the validity of expired ID cards and passports until May 31, 2025, is done to enable immigrants to participate in the May 11 elections.

The approval of this proposal will enable the participation of voters from outside the territory of the Republic of Albania, who will be able to register on the PER platform until March 4 to vote by mail in the elections.

Also, the Parliament will review today the draft decision that provides for an additional 80 part-time employees in the Central Election Commission, to cope with the large influx of registrations of Albanian citizens to vote from abroad.

In today's session, the Parliament will also review the draft decision for the election of the Commissioner for Protection and Discrimination./CNA
