Leskaj: I will hand over the mandate to the next candidate on the list to open

Democratic Party MP Bujar Leskaj, through a long post on social media, analyzed the political situation in his political force and stated that after the publication of the final OSCE/ODIHR report, the DP should conduct an in-depth analysis.

Leskaj states that the DP must strengthen relations with citizens, with the base/field, and strengthen internal structures.

" The final report of the OSCE/ODIHR mission on the parliamentary elections of 11 May 2025 constitutes a clear, detailed and professional document, which testifies to substantial deviations from democratic standards and Albania's international commitments, describing the electoral process as an unequal competition, manipulated and directly influenced by the ruling party. This realistic, impartial and exhaustive report in its analysis confirms that the elections of 11 May were a genuine electoral farce, a process stripped of the spirit of a free vote and a clear separation between the state and the ruling party.
After the publication of this report, the Democratic Party of Albania is facing a historic phase, which requires a deep analysis and a necessary reform process. This is a crucial moment to refresh and synergize the party, building a consolidated leadership and a structure that follows its fundamental principles. These new principles and approaches should be oriented in two main directions: strengthening relations with citizens, with the base/ground and strengthening the party's internal structures/apparatus".

Leskaj proposes that the MPs who won the mandate on May 11 hand it over to the successor candidate after two years in order to open the party.

The MP declares that he himself will leave his mandate after 2 years.

"Honest reflection and clear planning are needed to correct the mistakes made.
A necessary step in this direction is for closed-list MPs to leave half of their mandate for open-list MPs/or successor MPs. This is a way to open the Democratic Party, as were the principles of the Re-establishment. Personally, after two years, I will leave my mandate as an MP to the successor candidate on the list, to encourage new MPs, promote renewal and bring a new spirit of doing politics. This is a process that must be followed by all current MPs; who later, as former MPs, must continue to contribute maximally as if they were MPs, with activity. This formula, in my opinion, makes the Democratic Party healthier, making it stronger, more open and more secure for the future", declares Leskaj./ CNA
