Creation of the National Authority/ Rama: Waste management will no longer be

Prime Minister Edi Rama was present at the Integrated Waste Treatment Reform activity.

During his speech, Rama said that one of the problems with waste is the lack of uniformity, as there are several problematic areas along the coastline.

The Prime Minister stated that the creation of a national waste management operator is envisaged, an agency that will be available to the entire republic.

Rama announced that waste management will no longer be under the administration of local governments, but under the administration of the national waste authority.

" The Municipality of Lezha continues to lead in cleanliness. Things are better than last year. Problems, lack of uniformity. There are some problematic areas along the coastline. We must continue at a higher pace for reforms and legal measures in function of the ambition and objective, EU membership at the end of this decade, starting from the closure of negotiations at the end of 2027, as agreed. We will advance a new package of reforms and measures, of which I want to say that it is the new draft law on integrated waste management. We have foreseen the creation of a national waste management operator, an agency that will be available to the entire republic, the local government, and citizens. Waste collection and treatment will no longer be administered by municipalities but by this national authority ," declared Rama.

 

During his speech, the Prime Minister also stopped at the car graveyards in the country, which he said are illegally built and announced that he has launched an operation to remove them from the territory.

" We are in a completely primitive situation in relation to the separation of waste at source, with the responsibility of producers. We are the only country in Europe that has car cemeteries legalized without a law, with the will of Maliqi, as fait accompli. It will be an operation that has just begun to uproot all these cemeteries ," said Rama./ CNA
