Ina Zhupa publishes the letter: Rectors against the law of science

The Chairperson of the Education Commission, Ina Zhupa, issues the letter of the Rectors' Conference. They are unanimously against this project, amended by the government, and demand its suspension and dialogue for a joint draft.

The letter was sent to Elisa Spiropali and was kept hidden by the administration of the Assembly for days. A delegation of rectors will be at the Education Commission on Monday, but the chairman of the commission Zhupa and the opposition MPs cannot participate due to the political exclusions of the majority.

Zhupa states that he supports the conference of rectors, lecturers, and all the universities of Albania to enjoy autonomy and academic freedom, and wishes that the majority withdraws from this bill.

"The Conference of Rectors expresses in an official letter AGAINST the new draft law on science.

The Rectors' Conference that unites the Rectors of public and private universities in the country with the letter sent to the president of the assembly Elisa Spiropali express against this draft and show how another draft agreed with them has been changed along the way. After hiding the letter for days, they were forced to give it after the rectors informed us. As is customary, Rama and his ilk operate with the standard "some things are agreed and others are done" and they have brought a different law from the discussions with the Rectors' conference.

"For this draft law, we worked together with representatives of the Conference of Rectors and for the revised projects, based on the comments sent by us, there were reflections time after time.

We note with concern that the draft law that you are considering is a much different version than the one that was consulted with us, almost returning you to the first version of the original project, opposed by the Conference of Rectors.

Under these conditions, we would ask for the suspension of the procedures for the approval of the draft law and for you to accept at the beginning of the coming week, the comments that the Conference of Rectors will send you" - stated in the letter sent to the Assembly, the president of the conference of rectors, Prof. Dr. Artan Hoxha.

I support the conference of rectors, lecturers, and all university students of Albania to enjoy autonomy and academic freedom.

On Monday, according to political exceptions, I will not be able to lead the hearing session with the Rectors. I wish that the majority withdraws from the political project, for capturing science and knowledge, for ignoring and destroying university freedom and autonomy, and for the political monopolization of knowledge," Zhupa declared./ CNA
