Ina Zhupa in Saranda: Tourism cut in half, the government is looking for
PD MP, Ina zhupa

Deputy Ina Zhupa held meetings in the city of Saranda with businesses and tourist operators to understand how the summer season went in terms of tourism.

Zhupa says that businesses have complained about the halving of the number of tourists and that the government does not cooperate to adjust the conditions and the offer for the next year, but that it is enough to blame the hotel or restaurant prices.

"Expectations for 2024 were to be more prosperous than 2023, but in fact it did not even reach half of last year's numbers.

Tourists in Saranda were shortening their stay as they had come looking to return to their countries sooner, or leave for Corfu for the remaining days. There is no quality tourism without water, there is no quality tourism without roads, there is no quality tourism without cultural heritage. And these are the basic duties of the government and not of the businesses that, according to the government, are to blame for this situation.

The problems that we encountered in our meetings are diverse:

1-Lack of investment for public transport, chaos in the city with heavy traffic. Roads that were patched on patched in the middle of the season were a stress in themselves.

2-The city that stinks with the smell of waste from the lack of their effective management and the catastrophic state of waste on the streets.

3- Unfair competition where those who are not controlled by the state abuse the prices and spoil the image of others.

4- Lack of public parking. There is no public or municipal parking in Saranda.

5- Cultural heritage sites are not protected and are no longer of interest to tourists due to their condition. Only Butrinti and Syr i Kaltër still remain favorite destinations.

6- Lack of activities for all ages and in certain areas that do not cause noise in the city.

These were some of the main problems they identified, asking the state to be cooperative with them to succeed in tourism."/ CNA
