The court of Vlora has given its verdict regarding Fredi Beleri's mandate as Mayor of Himara.

Today, the Court has recognized the mandate of Fredi Beler in the Municipality of Himara, won by the local elections that took place on May 14.

"The Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction of Vorë decided to validate the mandate of the mayor of Himara Municipality, Vlorë District, Mr. Dhionisios (Alfred) Petro Beleri, proposed by the coalition "Bashke Fitomje" for the elections for the developed local self-government bodies on May 14, 2023", says the decision of judge Herila Cela.

As a result of the recognition of the mandate by the court, the way is opened for the swearing-in ceremony of mayor Beleri. The oath before the municipal council is a legal obligation and it will be expected how it will be done.

We remind you that Fredi Beleri was arrested on May 12, two days before the elections under the charge of buying and selling votes. Beleri requested the release in the Supreme Court. His lawyers have submitted the request to overturn the decision of the Court of Special Appeal, which left him under arrest in prison. It has not yet been determined when the request will be considered.

Meanwhile, on June 16, the GJKKO Appeal is expected to consider the request for invalidity of the wiretapping. Fredi Beleri became the first mayor in the history of local elections in our country, who is elected while he is locked in a cell./ CNA.al
