Deputy Agron Gjekmarkaj has come to the defense of the former prime minister and head of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, who was stripped of immunity by the majority today with 75 votes.

Gjekmarkaj says that the removal of immunity violates the Constitution, as he claims that the majority and the judiciary have no evidence to take such a step.

Through a status on social networks, he declares that in the case of Berisha, he acted with two standards, compared to the previous cases of deputies.

According to him, politics has triumphed over justice and has created a precedent that leaves a taste of hunting on Berisha.

He emphasizes that the blow against the former prime minister is not equal to any blow against the former minister.

Gjekmarkaj's full reaction:

What happens with Sali Berisha does not leave me indifferent. I convey him with human regret, but also for what he represents in the contemporary history of our country. I have not dreamed for a single moment, as someone who has taken everything undeserved from him and wishes for his destruction beyond any political position that I have held in coherence with myself.

One thing stood out during this event, I say this without claiming the monopoly of justice.

The country's constitution was violated in its article no. 73 and a precedent was created that left a taste of hunting on Sali Berisha, who represents the majority of the opposition. He is not above the law, but neither should he be under it with political action.

We expected evidence against him to be presented at the meeting of the Council of Mandates, but we did not see it. Once upon a time, this majority demanded evidence and poked the eyes of the prosecutors about Saimir Tahir. The two standards are a triumph of politics over justice, a poison that can sink dreams of a new justice.

Hitting him is not equal to hitting the former minister, if one wants to draw parallels.

A country without an opposition or with one trampled on, crushed by the hooves of guards, is a country without guarantees and, as such, without democracy, it is regression. A country where people voted by the opposition are used by the government, is a country in a deep ethical crisis, so much so that they are proposing laws to punish the opposition with prison if they make complaints.

If the opposition cannot do it alone, society must help it or one day it will be alone.

To complain today about the weaknesses of the opposition is an excuse for not having the strength to face reality.

What was Albania without opposition, we have all the memory, signs, traces in behavior, mentality, in the body of the motherland everywhere.

Everyone has the right to judge the opposition, to abandon it, to join it, it is so human to be afraid and, instead of confrontation, to choose comfort, but everyone, at least in front of the mirror of conscience, must admit to themselves that contraction, flight, fear are not virtues, they are not values.

It will be considered the legacy of subjugation, which creates long cycles where rights are taken away one by one and you are left alone in front of the police without a lawyer.
