The feast of Sultan Nevruz/ Rama congratulates the Bektash believers

Prime Minister Edi Rama has congratulated all Bektash believers on the Sultan Nevruz holiday.

In a post on social networks, the head of government has published images from the Crown of Mount Sevaster in Selenica and congratulates the faithful.

"Good morning and from the Crown of Mount Sevaster in Selenica, I wish you a happy Sultan Nevruz holiday", says Rama.

Today, Bektash believers celebrate the day of Sultan Nowruz, which is the birthday of Imam Ali at the Kaaba. On this day everything is resurrected, hope is born, resurrection for all humanity. It is a new day, when everyone hopes for a better future.

The word "Nevruzi" comes from Persian and means "New Day", while "Sultan" is the high title that shows the importance of this day.

The festival of Sultan Novruz arrived in the Albanian world together with the Bektashi faith, in the XV-XVI centuries. In the 20th century and especially in the middle of it, this holiday has turned into a nationwide manifestation. The communist dictatorship in Albania, inclined towards atheism, in 1967 closed all places of worship, including those of the Bektashi faith.

In Albania, Novruz Day, the most important holiday of Bektashism, was decreed as a national holiday in 1996. The Bektash sect is located mainly in the south of the country, while it has a considerable extension in the territory of the Republic of Albania. The Bektashis are also widespread in Kosovo and North Macedonia, where, along with the Sunnis, they make up the Albanian population of the Muslim faith./ CNA
