What does Rama expect from the Summit for Ukraine in Tirana
Prime Minister Edi Rama

Tomorrow, the Summit for Ukraine will be held in Tirana, where the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, will also come.

Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the idea for this summit was born during his meeting with Zelensky, while he described it as an honor for Albania.

"I feel humbled and honored to have spoken with President Zelensky, and to hear how much importance he attaches to the Western Balkans and our region, including several NATO members around the Western Balkans. The idea to organize the summit came to us in conversation. In fact, we sent the invitations together and the summit is being organized by both parties. In this part of the democratic world, there are no problems with support for Ukraine, for its territorial integrity. Also, there is no problem with understanding that Ukraine is not only fighting its own battle, but it is significant beyond Ukraine. What you mentioned are true and disturbing things. We do what we can. We are not gathering in Tirana to change the course of things for the entire democratic community. On the other hand, I will not underestimate the contribution and influence, so we are doing our duty and again I think it is a great honor for Albania to welcome this summit", he said.

Asked about the expectations, the head of the government said that with the summit he wants to give a message to the bigger and richer states not to justify the delays but to keep the promises to Ukraine.

"Listen, we have to be realistic. Albania, for example, is in the top ten in the list of contributors, but in relative terms according to capacities. Meanwhile, we are very conscious that we cannot change the dynamics of this war by anything we do. But that said, it's important that everyone does their part. Maybe, looking at our countries, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia… we are together, we support and we are in full solidarity with Ukraine… this will mean something to the bigger countries and richer. The promises are there, the commitment is there, but I'm not sure the excuses for all these delays can last much longer. Everyone must keep their promises", declared Rama./ CNA
