"We need a debate about Tirana"/ Teliti: The municipal elections

The Deputy Mayor of Tirana Municipal Council, Dorjan Teliti, described the situation with the leadership of the capital's municipality as worrying.

In a television appearance, Teliti emphasized that there are a number of political issues in the capital, for which he requested a debate.

Teliti also focused on the expected election process, which according to him should not be a repeat of the situation with the May 11 elections.

"Since they had not received the political message for 4 months, the answer is that... What happened in Tirana? Nothing happened in Tirana. The works are continuing, the city is being cleaned according to them, the schools are being built according to them... Here is the reality, the schools are in two shifts, the traffic continues to worsen day by day, but they had no answer and kept pushing.

The political order given by the Prime Minister came and now, during these days, I believe that the Municipal Council will meet very soon, and the opposition will participate in the meeting as it has been our request since the beginning of May, when we submitted the request as an opposition group to dismiss Veliaj from office and to pave the way for free and fair elections in Tirana.

After many years, God willing, there will be a debate about Tirana. A debate about this capital, a debate about its development, about the problems that this city has, about the actors that this city has, the actors that have shown themselves and let's discuss at least once with platforms, with ideas, with concrete proposals on how this country can improve. And let's come before the citizens with the candidates of each political party, with the respective vision. I would very much like to avoid a repeat of the 'deja vu' elections of May 2025, or 2019, where the elections were held by '5D', not Erion Veliaj, who threw the euro measures into the market.

"If they have the courage, if they have the dignity to enter the political market, with their candidacy that they have already determined and with our candidacy that will be determined in the coming days, with the relevant platforms, let's have a normal competition," Teliti said./CNA
