The Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party decided to submit a request to the Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, for the creation of a Special Parliamentary Commission.

The Commission focuses on coordinating and supervising all institutional efforts to combat disinformation and other forms of foreign interference in democratic processes in Albania.

This request is based on the commitments derived from: the Memorandum of Understanding dated February 15, 2024 between Albania and the USA to address the manipulation of information by foreign actors;

The request was made by the head of the group, Bledi Çuçi.

The latter says the Special Commission will implement a holistic and long-term approach to addressing foreign interference in democratic processes, which may include disinformation campaigns in traditional and social media to influence public opinion, direct financial support and indirect for efforts at disinformation, economic blackmail of public actors and manipulation of civil society./ CNA
