The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, today described the bonus scheme for pensioners as a fraud, directly accusing Prime Minister Edi Rama of this situation.

In a conference with journalists, Berisha said that this scheme is being used by the government for other purposes, and as a result, pensioners have not received a single penny from the 240 million euro fund. 

"I denounce the cynical, heartless attitude of Edi Rama's government towards the most vulnerable, most damaged stratum, which is that of Albanian pensioners."

The stratospheric rise in prices, deepened by the energy crisis, is hitting this stratum more and more every day, deceived and ignored to an extreme degree by the government.

"I emphasize that the bonus scheme used in the May 11 elections, but then it turned out to be a real fraud. 6 months passed and pensioners have not received a single penny from the 240 million euro fund, unspent money during 2025. According to government decisions, they were to be disbursed to pensioners, but they are being used by the government for other purposes and are being saved to be given to them at the end of the year," Berisha said./CNA
