The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has not separated himself from Lulzim Basha, the resigned leader of the DP, regarding the issue of Russian money.

Berisha again accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of holding Basha hostage with the file of 720,000 dollars.

"Lulzim Basha is Edi Rama's hostage because with the file of 720 thousand dollars, Lulzim Basha was investigated by the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana for money laundering and the investigation was completed and he will be sent to the Supreme Court to receive the punishment. Edi Rama, through a prosecutor, contrary to the law, kept the file for 28 days, which is the deadline, and on the 29th day he resigned and the file remained in his drawer. The deadline for the file to go to the Supreme Court has expired. The other prosecutor did not sign it. The file is open, Rama has it in his hand whenever he wants. Lulzim Basha knows because she has at least 6 years behind bars. That's why Edi Rama has it in hand", he said in an interview with Blerta Tafani.

The former prime minister shared the conversation with Basha in 2017 about the source of this money and emphasized that Basha must have the courage to go to prison.

"When they attacked him that it is Russian money, he told me that not a single penny is Russian. He told me that they are funds collected by an Albanian-American businessman that I will return here. I asked him, have you applied Albanian and American law in financial transactions? He told me yes. Later it turned out that they are not like that. The American services published a report where it is written that the DP in 2017 was financed by Russian money. The CIA report was refuted by Basha. But he never made it clear where he got the money. If you don't accept it, you must have the courage to go to prison, this must be resolved, but you cannot stay in Edi Rama's halter", stressed Berisha.
