Beleri, still in prison/ Greek Foreign Ministry: We are waiting for him to be

GJKKO rejected today the request of Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara, to ease the security measure.

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to this decision of the GJKKO.

The Greek authorities state that the rejection of the request by the court prevents Beler from taking office.

The Foreign Ministry declares that it is waiting for the respect of the presumption of innocence of Beler, as a fundamental element of the rule of law.

"Today's rejection of Beler's request for release from prison, and to take office as the new mayor of Himara Municipality, directly obstructs his oath and causes deep reflection on the real goals of his pursuit. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely following the developments and expects the respect of the presumption of innocence, a fundamental element of the rule of law, from the neighboring country", the statement of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs states./ CNA.al
