The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, complained this Monday that he is not able to make the investments he wants.

At the last meeting of the Consultative Council between the Central Government and Local Self-Government, Veliaj said that the law is delaying public investments.

He stated that one of the cases is in the Sharra cemetery, where the municipality cannot carry out works due to a court decision.

According to him, a trial cannot hold hostage the development of the community.

"We have a situation in Tirana where we cannot give ourselves permission to do work in the Sharra cemetery because a judge has given a security measure to a villa, which is inside the plot of the cemetery. Practically, the system cannot generate a permit if 100% of the property has not been cleared. I told you some of these quirks because I'm sure every mayor has a mountain of quirks of his own. If this permit work is made easier for us and if the front part of the property is free, for the construction site to continue, we are not holding entire communities hostage. A trial cannot hold hostage the entire development of that community because we lose precious time and also lose the financial cycle by which these acts are carried out", said Veliaj./ CNA
