Alibeaj: I am not ashamed of having been a minister in the Berisha government

MP Enkelejd Alibeaj, a candidate under the "Right for Development" coalition in the May 11 elections, stated in a show on A2Cnn that he is not ashamed of his past, when he was a minister in Berisha's government.

"It doesn't bother me when they call me Berisha's former minister. I am not ashamed of my past. I was a minister in the Democratic Party government and the prime minister at that time was Sali Berisha. I would be ashamed if during the time I was a minister I had come out with a black face, if I had been rumored for corruption, if I had been rumored as incompetent. If I had been rumored as a person who was placed there and had become a slave to politics as usually happens.

I don't want to judge myself, it's not appropriate, but at least it hasn't been shown in public. I was not a client minister of the prime minister. This is the old culture, the communist worker culture. It is a privilege and a responsibility. I may have been a minister in the Berisha government at that time, but for those who remember, I opposed many things, on matters of principle.

So not only am I not ashamed of it, but I am proud of it. There is a possibility that you can also be in politics, be in the high ranks of the executive and not fall into the great traps of corruption, or of the lack of identity and your political position for things that do not suit you. I have not only been a minister, but also a deputy and I have fought very strong battles, even within the DP.

"I am not grateful to Berisha for appointing me as a minister, but he should be grateful to me. A prime minister's greatest interest should be that ministers perform well and do not fall into incompetence and corruption practices," said Alibeaj./ CNA
