Former prosecutor: Veliaj's case procedurally correct, criminal offense

In "Drejt" by Luan Rama, former prosecutor Eugen Beci said that this is the first time that SPAK is on its turf because it has arrested an official on duty.

According to Beci, Veliaj's case is procedurally correct since the criminal offense was investigated based on an anonymous report but with evidence.

"The specific case of persecution is Arben Ahmetaj where the person was investigated and not the criminal offense. This is not the Veliaj case, because it is procedurally correct. The criminal offense was investigated based on an anonymous report, but with evidence. We have already found the person suspected of having committed the criminal offense. This is another process that will continue.

"Then the prosecution's evidence will be confronted, because they will be confronted with the version of Veliaj and his lawyers. The prosecution has the way to strengthen the evidence it has or to find new evidence. Veliaj has the duty to refute the evidence. We are still in the phase of suspicion of a criminal offense," said Beci.

Among other things, the former prosecutor stated that the Special Prosecution Office is on its own turf because it has arrested an official on duty.

"This is the first time that SPAK is on its own turf because it has arrested an official in office. Every element related to high-level corruption started with the General Prosecutor's Office, while the changes with the Justice Reform passed to SPAK and the GJKKO."

SPAK has already entered the sea and is already doing the task for which it was created. We are not talking about mayors who do not have the importance of Veliaj. The mayor of Tirana was seen as the man who could also take the post of prime minister. Therefore, the fact that he is not a former confirms the authority of SPAK", added the former prosecutor./ CNA
