The referendum, the aspiration of the Presheva Valley

This year, we mark the 32nd anniversary of the Referendum of March 1 and 2, 1992, the majority Albanian population of the Municipality of Presheva, Medvegja and Bujanovac declared this Province as Autonomous, establishing the Assembly for Territorial-Political Autonomy of Albanians.

These three municipalities have been unjustly left under the administration of Serbia, that's why we have expressed our will in a democratic way, to enjoy freedom in individual and collective rights, to be equal no less than others.

The referendum was and remained as a shaping of commitment as an organized collectivity of this Region. The maturity of the political factorization has been shown, manifested as the resistance of the Albanians shown through the organization and going out to vote in the plebiscite referendum. It was a guide for the vision of the political adhema.

On the 1st and 2nd of March of 1992, the expression of the will was held for two consecutive days and it was the political determination of the future by taking the responsibility to raise the issue of this province for a solution, respecting the aspiration expressed in the form of a plebiscite of the Referendum.

This year, it is 32 years since the Referendum that marks the endurance and sacrifice in the efforts to organize and mobilize the Albanians of Presheva, Medvegja and Bujanovac.

We are also discriminated against in the passivation of addresses - a silent ethnic cleansing, we are discriminated against in non-representation in Local and Central institutions of the Republic of Serbia, we are discriminated in the chain of command of the Police, in the Court, the Prosecutor, Health, Tax Administration, we are discriminated also in culture, in the preservation of cultural-historical heritage, in information, in investments and economic development.

This Albanian region is discriminated against, as this is the most backward and discriminated region in all of Europe.

The referendum held on March 1 and 2, 1992, and the armed uprising and the formation of the UÇPMB, which fought and succeeded in internationalizing the issue of this Region, shows that its political status has not been resolved yet.
