The August ritual arrived again this year. Almost every month of August for at least a few years, it has become inevitable for us to experience these heinous crimes that tighten the whole society.

Somewhere, someone, makes a mess and we all move around the keyboards of computers or mobile phones as if inside a big virtual cage to be eaten from inside the "bars" that keep us inside.

Because if it weren't for those "bars" imprisoning us in front of glowing screens, we'd all be running towards the Cruel Culprit to roast him alive in the heat of our collective anger.

The scenario becomes complete if the Cruel Culprit also has the help of the Police, the Prosecutor's Office, the Court and the Party in power, to give him peace like the most beautiful devil...

It is certain that this is where the rest of the angry people come from, who try to do their political duty every day and for everything.

The good thing about breaking out of the virtual cage, from Facebook and social networks, is that you can do all the work at very little cost, even getting some sun and looking at naked bodies around, or sipping some fresh beer or enjoying some fresh carpaccio prepared for worry.

With your cell phone in hand, you stare at the lit screen, focus there to disconnect from the fun around you, and immerse yourself with all your might in the fury of missing father all the time when you are not on vacation.

You start to beat the keyboard and you say that each letter is a worry of the year that you dwell on.

The crimes and murders of the day leave you breathless and invade every cell of your being.

The great anxiety and nightmare that is caused legitimize any feeling of revolt, especially when the crimes also have the color of the injustice of the state and power.

But our powerlessness to protect the victims or potentially ourselves from the danger that feels so eerily close to us in such cases does not excuse us for our apathy on all other days of the year.

Where are we when every day we read news about expired, falsified, ineffective medicines or about scandalously and stupidly unsafe foods?

I was talking with a friend of mine in Ulcinj a while ago and I was stunned when he told me that cancer cases have started to increase even across the border since food products from Albania have started to be sold in Montenegro.

Believe me, he told me, there is a lot of corruption and mafia in Montenegro, maybe even more than in Albania, but no one, ever, dares to compromise food safety.

As if to cloud my conscience even more, as soon as I returned to Tirana, I heard the news on TV that in Albania, cases of cancer and tumors have gone up to 7,000 per year, and with this growth progression, they will soon be 8,500 per year and up to catastrophic figures.

For years, the main causes are no longer smoking, nor working environments, but food safety and environmental pollution.

I believe that here I also have a strong personal harassment because due to the battle that I developed in 2015 against the cruelty of our health system and the pharmaceutical mafia, I had the opportunity to know and learn many things and facts that I did not know before.

The case of my family member who died not only from cancer but also from the greed of corrupt politicians and the pharmaceutical mafia, opened the gates of some screaming truths, about which I do not intend to remain silent as long as I have breath.

3 are the truths that, according to me, are an emergency on top of emergencies for our society and nation.

1. We feed on crime.
2. We take refuge in crime.
3. We are cured by crime.

What is the crime?

The crime is the greed, greed, wickedness, inhumanity of those who get rich by bringing, selling or producing expired, manipulated, hormone-injected, chemical-laden foods.

It is a crime on top of crimes because potentially every trader or manufacturer of such food products is a murderer. And as long as they sell or produce such food products to get rich or survive, this makes them murderers with a conscience.

Even the politicians and institutions that take bribes or corrupt benefits and get criminally rich from this type of trade or food products, are murderers with a conscience.

How can we allow this to continue?

How can we call these scoundrels and murderers with a conscience who bring and sell for our children and us expired, lower quality, manipulated food, and so on, honest traders or entrepreneurs?

And these farmers of ours who have made profit the main reason and are not leaving hormone-treated meat and farmed produce without injecting and without chemicals, what do we call them other than murderers with a conscience?

And these flour merchants and bakers who make our daily bread with wheat and horsemeal from Serbia, killing us little by little every day, what do we call them?

What about the builders who built half of Albania with radioactive iron from Ukraine, what do we call them?

And these barbarians of pharmaceuticals who sell us some generic drugs but who have filled the market with expired or counterfeit drugs that only give us healing, what do we call them?

7000 or 8000 cases of cancer per year are Nazi statistics of national extermination.

Call it what you want, but if we didn't act today, if we didn't use our public Pat Glendon today, to stop this crime against humanity, next year, when there are 8500 more cancer patients, stop complaining.

Just wait until next August to unleash our public beast on some Cruel Culprit who will do the next macabre thing.

The nation must stand up for Food Safety and Drug Safety.

There is no higher emergency.
