"Danuri" amazes from space/ Sends wonderful black and white images of Earth

Danuri, South Korea's first lunar probe has sent back stunning black and white photos of Earth from space.

Danuri is a name derived from the Korean words for "moon" and "pleasure". It was launched into space on a SpaceX rocket from the US in August 2022 and entered lunar orbit last month.

The images were captured between December 24 and January 1, and show Earth as it rests on the moon's surface from a height of 120 kilometers above it.

Danuri completes a complete rotation around the Moon every two hours. 

Its science mission will begin in February, including analyzing the Moon's surface and measuring magnetic fields, as well as measuring gamma rays. 

In addition, it will test experimental technologies for the "space internet".

This is a "historic moment for the country's space program," according to South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol. 

The country has ambitious space plans, including landing a spacecraft on the Moon by 2032 and reaching Mars by 2045./ CNA.al
