Athlete and weightlifting record holder, Aleksandër Kondo

36 years ago, the athlete and weightlifting record holder, Alexander Kondo, died in a tragic car accident in Queens, New York, USA.

Historian Kastriot Dervishi has provided more information about this athlete's loss.

The historian shows that the State Security had drawn up an agential plan for Kondo and his fellow weightlifter, as he described them as persons "recruited" by the Yugoslav UDB.

Dervishi declares that the diaspora Albanians never proved their hypothesis that the athlete was killed by the State Security.

He has published a document from the archives and says that the State Security learned the news of Kondo's death from "Voice of America".

Aleksandër Kondo dhe shoku i tij peshëngritës u arratisën fillimisht në Jugosllavi më 28.5.1985, gjatë kthimit nga një kampionat në Poloni dhe në fund të vitin emigruan në SHBA. Më 24.12.1986 Drejtoria e Tretë e Sigurimit të Shtetit në Tiranë harton një plan agjenturial-operativ me 14 pika me synim raportimin e aktivitetit të Aleksandër Kondos në SHBA, sepse ai dhe shoku i tij Xhelal Sukniqi, shpreheshin “mjaft keq për regjimin” dhe kërcënonin me telefonata misionin shqiptar në Nju-Jork. Dyshimi ishte se të dy “ishin rekrutuar nga UDB”, pavarësisht se nuk jepej asgjë në këtë drejtim. “Argumenti” i vetëm ishte se kur ishin arratisur në Jugosllavi, duhej të ishin “rekrutuar” në UDB-ja. Në fund të vitit 1987 do të analizohej plani i masave. Në këtë plan, nuk ka asnjë ide apo orvatje për të organizuar ndonjë vrasje apo aksident, por janë të dhëna me karakter informativ, përfshi burimet e hapura, të konsultueshme nga kushdo. Prova e vdekjes së Kondos, është vendosur në dosje nga buletini i datës 2.5.1987 i “Zërit të Amerikës”, sjellë nga ATSH-ja. Ideja e “vrasjes nga Sigurimi” ishte hedhur nga shqiptarët e diasporës. Zef Camaj akuzoi Sigurimin e Shtetit dhe tha se do bëjë të njohur materialet përkatëse. Në fakt as bëri të njohur materiale dhe as dosja e policisë amerikane nuk është konsultuar për këtë çështje.
