The model and wars of Llazar Fundo/ Matteo Mandala: The ideals that enabled
Lazar Fundo

Professor Matteo Mandala has recalled the contribution of the intellectual Llazar Fundo and his fight for freedom and peace in Europe.

Mandala begins his story with the story of Llazar Fundos, who was born in Korça in 1899, and who completed his studies first in Greece and then in Paris, where he held the first meetings of the communist movement.

Mandala points out that Fundo in 1939 decided to return to his country to fight against foreign occupation.

In 1941 he was arrested by the Italian fascists and sent abroad.

He was released in 1943 and returned to Albania to follow the path of the liberation of his country that would happen in 1945 when Fundo had passed away 1 year ago, in 1944, killed by the hand of Enver Hoxha who decided to shoot and torture him accused as a traitor.

" Llazar Fundo, born on March 25, 1899 in Korçë, had studied at the academy of Voskopojë, a center of studies of the 700s, he studied in Greece and finished his studies in Paris, where he encountered the first meetings of the international communist movements.

In the 20s, he founded the Albanian Communist Party together with other intellectuals such as Luigj Gurakuqi, Gjergj Fishta, Hasan Prishtina in the revolutionary attempt to replace a democratic government in Albania, carried out by Fan Noli, which went down in history as the dominance of the Bishop of Red, against the feeling of friendship for the Soviet Union.

Thanks to the help of Fundo, Fan Nolit leaves for the Soviet Union due to Stalinist persecution.

This motive to abandon his communist faith and embrace socialist ideas.

He traveled for several years to different European countries, France, Switzerland, Italy, where he created a European vision of politics.

After the Italian invasion of Albania in April 1939, he decided to return to his country to fight against the foreign occupation.

In 1941 he was arrested by the Italian fascists and sent abroad.

I am convinced that in the example of Fundo we can find the origins and roots of our era but also understand in what climate society is waging its wars today for freedom, for democracy, for survival but to recall those ideals that have enabled Europe to have peace.

April 25 and its martyrs are a lesson to remember, not to forget and to look towards the future with hope", said Mandala./ CNA.al
