Police announcement:

State Police

Two brothers convicted of murder were captured in Italy, thanks to the cooperation and real-time exchange of information between the State Police and the Italian Police.

In 1999, in Lushnja, they shot and killed the citizen who had killed their brother.

The brothers, sentenced to 32 years in prison, had obtained residence permits in Italy using false identities.

Their identification is the result of the use of "Facial Recognition" technology, now available to Interpol Tirana.

As part of successive international operations, finalized as a result of the cooperation and trust of the State Police structures towards their European counterparts and partners, the Criminal Police Department at the DPSSh, in cooperation with the General Prosecutor's Office and the Fier Local Police Directorate, provided information on the location in Italy of the two brothers convicted of murder.

The information was exchanged between Interpol Tirana and Interpol Rome, with the coordination of the Interpol General Secretariat.

As a result, citizens Artur Mehilli, 60 years old, and Arben Mehilli, 54 years old, were arrested in Italy.

They were declared internationally wanted after the Lushnja Judicial District Court, in 2001, convicted them of the criminal offenses of "Premeditated Murder", committed in collaboration, and "Unlicensed Possession and Production of Weapons, Explosive Weapons and Ammunition", specifically:

-citizen Artur Mehilli, with 15 years and 6 months of imprisonment;

-citizen Arben Mehilli, with 16 years and 6 months of imprisonment.

On 12.09.1999, in Lushnja, two citizens killed, for blood feud reasons, citizen RM, who in 1997 had killed their brother, citizen SM.

The arrested, after committing the crime, left for Italy using passports with false generalities (citizen Artur Mehilli used the generalities Artur Davidhi, while citizen Arben Mehilli used the generalities Arben Gjermeni), through which they had obtained the necessary documents for residence in Italy.

Their identification was made possible as a result of intensive work, using the latest biometric identification technology "Facial Recognition", by specialists from the Interpol Directorate.

Cooperation continues with Italian counterparts to finalize the extradition procedure of the two citizens to Albania. /CNA
