Clash between drug cartel and army/ Albanian hostages rescued

A large-scale operation was carried out in Ecuador, in the Rinconada and Ayampe areas, in the Santa Elena province this morning.

According to media reports, two Albanian citizens and three Ecuadorian citizens who were being held hostage by a drug cartel have been rescued.

The hostages were being held at a farm suspected of being used by the "Los Choneros" criminal group.

During the clash, there was an exchange of fire between security forces and cocaine traffickers, during which a suspected member of the "Los Choneros" group was killed.

Four other people were arrested at the scene.

According to Ecuadorian authorities, the raided facility served as an illegal base for criminal activity, including the holding of kidnapped citizens hostage.

During the search conducted in the area, 4 pistols, 74 9 mm cartridges, 6 mobile phones and 1 package of plastic ties suspected of being used to tie up hostages were seized.

The person killed has not yet been identified, but is suspected of having been an active member of the "Los Choneros" group, one of the most violent organized crime organizations in Ecuador.
