'Rivers' of drugs from Reggio Calabria to Rome/New blow to Elvis

An operation coordinated by the Carabinieri of the Rome Investigation Unit, with the support of the Provincial Commands with territorial jurisdiction, led to the arrest of 14 people, believed to be part of a criminal organization active in drug trafficking, extortion and arson. The measures were carried out in various locations: Rome, Rossano, Reggio Calabria, Cisterna di Latina and Bovalino.

The raid was triggered by a preliminary detention order issued by the Rome Court, after the District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) appealed against a previous decision. The investigation, described as "complex", shed light on a criminal network linked to the association led by Albanian Elvis Demçe, already sentenced to 18 years in prison in January 2022 for drug trafficking, extortion and arson.

This new investigative group targeted other members of the organization and made it possible to reconstruct operational roles within the group, thanks to a dense network of wiretaps and analysis of encrypted conversations.

Among those arrested are also Calabrian subjects, considered stable collaborators of Demce, mainly active in the distribution of cocaine along the Rome - Reggio Calabria axis. During the investigations, which cover the period between May 2020 and March 2021, large quantities of narcotic substances trafficked in the provinces of Rome and Latina were documented: 338 kg of cocaine, 1,510 kg of hashish, 70 kg of marijuana./CNA
