During the past week, the Operational Unit for Road Safety has conducted increased checks on national axes, using drones and Poliscan, to monitor and punish violators of road traffic rules, who endanger lives on the road. 

2 drones and 3 Poliscan radars were used to identify dangerous driving behaviors in real time, as well as to measure speed in high-risk accident segments. 

The focus of the checks during the week are: exceeding the speed limit, improper overtaking, using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seat belt, preventing driving, under the influence of alcohol or intoxicated driving.

Dozens of serious violations have been identified, for which administrative measures have been taken, including suspensions of driving licenses, in accordance with the Highway Code. Specifically:

765 administrative measures for wrongful overtaking;

423 administrative measures for speeding, with the sanction of suspension of driving license and deduction of points from driving license; 

876 administrative measures for not wearing a seat belt;

1121 administrative measures for using a mobile phone while driving;

128 measures for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Traffic Police will continue intensive field checks, using technological tools, with the aim of preventing accidents and increasing safety for all road users. /CNA
