Horror like in the '90s/ Murder of the Italian, SPAK: He was shot 5 times

SPAK and the Bari District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) conducted this morning a joint and extensive operation within the framework of international investigations in Albania and Italy, carried out by the Joint Investigation Team, set up with the support of Eurojust.

The investigations focused on uncovering the murder of Francesco Divisti, an event that occurred on April 25, 2025, in Canosa di Puglia, in southern Italy, and an Albanian criminal organization, based in Tirana, involved in international drug trafficking and laundering of the proceeds of crime, from Italy to Albania.

The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has issued 10 personal security measures, while 5 others were issued by the Italian judicial authorities. These measures were imposed on 11 Albanian citizens, 4 Italians, (including 4 women, placed under house arrest and reporting obligation). The measures were executed on the basis of an international arrest warrant in Tirana, Fier, Vlora (Albania), in Barletta, in the prison of Rome and Agnani, (Italy) as well as in Madrid (Spain).

Criminal offenses:

Premeditated murder, carried out using mafia-style execution methods

Attempted extortion;

Illegal possession and keeping of firearms and ammunition;

Personal favoritism;

Violation of personal preventive measures;

International laundering of proceeds of crime from Italy to Albania

The preliminary injunction issued by the Court of Bari confirmed the consistency of the evidence against three people, investigated as material executors of the crime committed against Francesco Divisti; an Albanian (the perpetrator) and two Italians from Barletta, a man and a woman, who helped hide the traces of the crime by not reporting it to the judicial authorities.

Execution of Francesco Divisti – April 25, 2025

The investigations revealed that on the evening of April 25, 2025, Francesco Divisti was involved in a conflict in a bar in Barletta and was taken inside some caves, near an isolated area in the upper Murgia, in Casosa di Puglia, where he was shot 5 times with two pistols and then, some tires were set on fire, in order to burn the body, according to a method used in the 90s, in this area. Referring to this method of execution, the investigation was taken over by the Antimafia Directorate of Bari, locating the body within four days. On June 25, the Albanian citizen involved in the crime, who had left two days after the execution of Divisti, was arrested in the city of Roshe, Hungary, not for murder, but for possession of 24 kilograms of pure cocaine, within the framework of the proceedings of the Trani Prosecutor's Office. The Anti-Mafia Directorate of Bari had sent evidence to this Prosecutor's Office to enable his arrest for this crime. At the same time, over 412,000 euros in cash were seized from his family members and the involvement of three Italian citizens in this criminal case was documented in the investigation.

The reconstruction of the murder of Divisti and the identification of the criminal group involved in laundering the proceeds of the crime were made possible thanks to a broader investigation into Albanian citizens located in Puglia, conducted by the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate of Bari, under the direction and coordination of the Anti-Mafia Directorate of Bari, in the context of international drug trafficking from Albania to Puglia.

Regarding the investigated citizens, the GJKKO has also ordered preventive seizure of 4 commercial companies, 8 vehicles, 10 bank accounts and the amount of 680,595 euros, which were seized by the State Police on November 14, 2024 at the Muriqani Border Crossing Point, following information received from the DIA Operational Center, Bari.

Today's operation is part of a multi-year investigative project between SPAK and the DDA of Bari against international cocaine and heroin trafficking, managed by Albanian criminal organizations, and follows the operations:

From 2018 to 2025, these operations have led to the establishment of 170 security measures, the seizure of assets worth millions of euros and the seizure of over 7 tons of drugs (cocaine, heroin, cannabis). At various levels of trial, sentences of up to 20 years in prison have been imposed for each defendant./ CNA
