European Union Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos has reacted sharply to statements made by the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government in the Government of Serbia, Snezhana Paunovic.

The minister in Vu?i?'s government said that if she had had the freedom of action that Slobodan Miloševi? had, she would have "ethnically cleansed Kosovo."

While delivering her speech at the EP's Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield, Kos described such a statement in 2026 as shocking.

According to Kos, after such a public statement, Paunovic cannot continue to exercise her duties.

During her speech, she said that it is shocking to hear such scandalous statements while we are in 2026.

"It was shocking to hear something like that in 2026. I won't even repeat what she said. It was truly shocking to hear such a statement. I cannot imagine that a minister, after such a public statement, can continue to exercise her duty," Commissioner Kos declared./CNA
