Swallowed 120 heroin capsules/ 46-year-old woman arrested in Bergamo

A 46-year-old woman was stopped upon arrival at Orio al Serio in Bergamo, Italy, after it was found that she had swallowed 120 heroin capsules. The woman, of Nigerian origin and resident in Italy since 2013, had departed from Brussels and was planning to travel to Alghero.

Her nervousness, along with several circumstances, including contradictory explanations for her trip and the lack of checked baggage, prompted Customs and Guardia di Finanza officials to conduct further checks.

At that point, the woman admitted to carrying drugs. She was then taken to Bergamo hospital, where radiological tests confirmed that she had swallowed 120 capsules, in hard plastic containers wrapped in adhesive tape. After analysis, they were found to contain almost 1.4 kilograms of heroin.

After the capsules were taken out, the heroin was seized and the woman was arrested for drug trafficking. She is currently in prison in Bergamo. /CNA
