Developments for peace in Ukraine/ Secretary Rubio speaks with European foreign ministers

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with several European foreign ministers.

Rubio held a virtual conversation with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Polish Foreign Minister Rados?aw Sikorski, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, and European Union High Representative Kaja Kallas.

The leaders discussed the situation ahead for a ceasefire and the path to peace in Ukraine.

It is learned that US President Donald Trump confirmed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other senior officials will participate in planned peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in Turkey on May 15.

The announcement comes as international attention has focused on Istanbul, after Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed hosting direct talks between Kiev and Moscow there.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he will attend, but the Kremlin has so far remained silent about the possibility of Putin's participation./CNA
