Middle East conflict widens/ Israel attacks Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, dozens

The conflict in the Middle East has spread to Lebanon. The Israeli military (IDF) has announced that it has launched a new wave of attacks on Hezbollah targets.

The statement said the targets hit included weapons storage facilities and additional infrastructure in several parts of Lebanon. Before the attacks, the IDF had warned residents of more than 50 villages in Lebanon to evacuate for their safety.

"Anyone who is near Hezbollah members, its facilities or its military assets is putting their lives at risk," the warning said. 

In the early hours of Monday, the Israeli military launched strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon after the militant group fired rockets into Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called the rockets from Lebanon an irresponsible act.

"Regardless of the party behind this, the launch of rockets from southern Lebanon is an irresponsible and suspicious act that endangers Lebanon's security and defense and gives Israel pretexts to continue its attacks on it ," Salam said.

Regarding the attacks, the Lebanese Ministry of Health also reacted, saying that Israeli attacks in Beirut and southern Lebanon have killed 31 people and injured 149 others. The number of victims may increase in the coming hours. /CNA
