Two Israelis were killed by a Lebanese rocket

A 76-year-old woman and her son were killed in a village in northern Israel by a rocket fired from Lebanon on Sunday, Israeli officials said.

The attack came just hours after the Israeli military said it killed four heavily armed militants who were trying to sneak into Israel from Lebanon.

Fighting between Israel and the Iranian-backed Lebanese movement Hezbollah has escalated in parallel with Israel's multi-quarter war against Hamas in Gaza, another Iranian-backed group.

Hamas has been declared a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union.

An anti-tank rocket fired at Kfar Yuval, a farming village on the border with Lebanon, fell on a house, killing a mother and her 40-year-old son, the Israeli military said.

A 74-year-old man was injured, according to a medical official, who described them as members of the same farming family.

The Israeli military said its forces are striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon in retaliation.

On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel will continue its war against Hamas until it wins and will not be stopped by anyone.

Netanyahu spoke after the International Court of Justice in The Hague held two hearings into South Africa's accusations that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians.

Israel has denied these accusations, calling them hypocritical and slanderous.

South Africa has asked the court to order Israel to stop its air and ground offensive, which has devastated Gaza.

"No one will stop us, not The Hague, not the axis of evil or anyone else," Netanyahu said, referring to Iran and its allied militias.

Sunday marks 100 days of fighting in Gaza.

Israel is facing intense international pressure to end the war, which has killed more than 23,000 Palestinians in Gaza and caused great suffering in the besieged enclave.

The war was sparked by a deadly attack on October 7, in which members of Hamas and other militants killed an estimated 1,200 people in Israel, mostly civilians. More than 250 people were taken hostage and, while some have been released or died, more than half are believed to be still being held captive./ REL
