Ukraine continues attacks against infrastructure facilities in Russia

Ukraine carried out a wave of drone strikes deep inside Russian territory on Monday morning, damaging infrastructure facilities in two regions, Russia's Defense Ministry and regional officials said.

A day earlier, a reported Ukrainian attack caused a fire at an oil refinery in Russia.

In Russia's western Oryol region, a power plant was damaged after being hit by shrapnel from two downed Ukrainian drones over Glazunovskiy Oblast, regional governor Andrey Klychkov said on Telegram.

"Emergency services are dealing with the consequences of the airstrike, while law enforcement agencies are on the scene," Klychkov wrote, without explaining what damage the power plant suffered.

Russia's Defense Ministry said its air defense destroyed 39 Ukrainian drones, of which: 19 over Kurks region, 9 in Belgorod, 3 in Voronezh, 5 in Bryansk and 3 over Leningrad region.

Russia's claims cannot be independently verified.

This is the second day in a row that reported Ukrainian attacks have caused damage to Russian infrastructure facilities.

On July 28, it was reported that Ukrainian army drones hit an oil depot in the Kurks region. Videos posted online showed a huge fire in it. The regional governor, Aleksey Smirnov, said that three oil tankers caught fire as a result of drone attacks.

Since launching its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Moscow has repeatedly and systematically hit infrastructure and civilian facilities in Ukraine, causing casualties and damage.

In response, Ukraine has begun targeting oil refinery facilities and energy infrastructure inside Russia, which primarily work for the Russian military.

On July 27, Ukrayinska Pravda reported that Ukrainian drones struck an oil refinery in Russia's Ryazan region.

Meanwhile, Russia carried out attacks in the southern Ukrainian cities of Kherson and Nikopol on Monday morning, injuring 20 people, including five children, regional and local officials said.

Ukrainian air defenses shot down a missile and nine Russian drones over its regions on Monday, Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said.

The continuous shelling has forced hundreds of civilians to flee this area, local officials told Radio Free Europe./ REL
