North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is grooming his teenage daughter as his successor in power, according to several South Korean lawmakers who have been briefed by Seoul's spy agency.

The daughter, Kim Ju Ae, whose age has not been confirmed, has been seen with her father at several events, raising speculation that Kim Jong Un has chosen her as head of state, in the fourth generation of the family's leadership.

Lawmaker Lee Seong-kweun has said that the National Intelligence Service has judged that she has been elected to power.

"Pyongyang is training Kim Ju Ae to be at the head of the country, and it seems that she has the most chances of succession," Lee told reporters after the meeting with the agency.

The agency is reported to have told lawmakers that Kim Jong Un is "very overweight," about "140 kilograms," and thus at "high risk of heart disease."

Kim, who is known to smoke, has reportedly had symptoms of high blood pressure and diabetes since his early 30s, Lee said, citing the agency's findings.

North Korea is increasing Kim Ju Ae's exposure to the public to gauge North Korean reactions to her role as a potential heir.

In most cases, she has been seen close to the current leader in military arrangements, such as observing exercises.

However, the agency in Seoul has not ruled out the possibility of another child of the leader inheriting power, considering that North Korea has not made any official announcement./ REL
